Sue began her interest in tropical plants with a series of drawings and etchings of hothouses. This aspect of her art developed to include jungle scenes inspired by her interest in Paraguay. The images on this page mainly reflect Sue's passion for Paraguay, though one depicts a tropical scene rather closer to home, at St Just in Roseland, Cornwall.
This painting in gouache was among those inspired by Sue's trip to Paraguay, though it is not a figurative representation of a particular scene. Rather, it seeks to reflect Sue's sense of the magic of the country.
This is another gouache painting in Sue's series based on her experience of Paraguay.
This further gouache painting in Sue's Paraguayan series is no longer for sale.
This gouache painting is the fourth in Sue's Paraguayan series. It gained the award as Best Work in Colour at the ninetieth exhibition of the Society of Graphic Fine Art, which took place at the Menier Gallery, London, in October 2011. It had earlier been exhibited at the Mall Galleries, London, in the Sunday Times Water Colour Competition exhibition, following which it toured the country to Bristol, Salisbury and Southampton.
Sue continues to explore her imaginative recollections of the flora and fauna of Paraguay in further paintings in her Paraguayan Dream series. Numbers 5, 7, and 9 are in gouache, Number 6 in oil.
