Sue Andrew

Welcome to Sue Andrew's website. We hope that it will provide an indication of the artist's style and subject matter.

Sue Andrew has been a practising artist and printmaker for many years. She took her degree in Fine Art in Manchester and has been a teacher and lecturer as well as a full-time artist. She has worked in a range of media, including oil, gouache, acrylic, pen and ink and etching. Her subject matter has included portraiture, landscape, tropical scenes and jungles, religious imagery, and illustration.

Awards & Highlights
  1. Examples of Sue's depictions of tropical scenes, including paintings from her Paraguayan Dream series, have been shown in a one-woman exhibition at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester
  2. Two of Sue's paintings are illustrated in the book 'One Hundred Years of the Society of Graphic Fine Art', ISBN 978-1-5272-3172-6, which was published in 2019/
  3. Sue's painting "Paraguayan Dream No.4" was chosen as the cover illustration of the Spring 2018 edition of the distinguished American academic publication, The Journal of Global South Studies
  4. Paintings from Sue's Paraguayan Dream series gained the awards for Best Work in Colour at the annual exhibitions of the Society of Graphic Fine Art at the Menier Gallery, London, in October 2011, and again in October, 2012.
  5. She won two awards at the 2013 Annual Open Exhibition of the United Kingdom Coloured Pencil Society (UKCPS)
  6. Caran D'Ache Award for the Best Portrait and the Pencils4Artists Award for the Creative Use of Colour
  7. She won the award for "Best Other Category" at the UKCPS exhibition at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Gallery in May 2014

Sue sells existing art works and accepts commissions. Past commissions have included landscapes and portraits; they have ranged from a series of pen and ink drawings to illustrate the novel "Wuthering Heights", for the Manchester Education Authority, to a seven-foot angel in a High Renaissance style, created for a parish church.
